PI Examination General Information
PLEASE NOTE: This office does not send the examination application or study guide materials until after an applicant has applied for a license and it has been determined they do not have the required experience.
The examination is comprised of 100 (one hundred) questions which break down as follows: 50 (fifty) questions cover the current statutes that govern the practice of private investigating in the state of Missouri and 25 (twenty-five) questions cover the current rules governing the practice of private investigators and an additional 25 (twenty-five) questions are relevant to the general practice of private investigation. Applicants are given two (2) hours to complete the examination. To successfully pass the examination applicants must achieve a seventy percent (70%) or better pass rate.
The examination begins at 1:00pm and is administered at the Division of Professional Registration, 3605 Missouri Boulevard, Jefferson City, Missouri, unless we have to change locations due to the number of applicants taking the examination.
The cost to take the examination is $80.00, which is paid when an applicant submits their examination application. Below you will find a list of scheduled examination dates.
