VETERINARY COMPOUNDING EMERGENCY RULE:
The Missouri Board of Pharmacy was recently contacted by representatives of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association regarding concerns with the available supply of compounded preparations for animal patients. Specific concerns were raised with the availability of emergency medication required for immediate use.
After consultation with the Missouri Veterinary Medical Board, the Board filed an emergency rule to amend 20 CSR 2220-2.400 to allow pharmacies to provide non-patient specific compounded preparations to a Missouri-licensed veterinarian for administration/dispensing to the veterinarian’s animal patients. The emergency rule became effective on March 30, 2019 and is currently in force.
