About the Board
The State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors was established in 1895 by an act of the Missouri General Assembly. The board's rules and regulations require licensure for individuals engaged in the practice of embalming, funeral directing, and preneed agent/funeral director agent and licensure of funeral establishments, preneed sellers and preneed providers, in order to ensure the good of the public. The board is currently composed of six members, with five members possessing a license to practice embalming and/or funeral directing and one voting public member. Board members are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.
