How to File a Complaint

NCSBN has released a video demonstrating how its Adverse Events Decision Pathway can help determine if a nurse's behavior warrants filing a complaint with the state regulatory board. By reporting the unsafe practice, nurses can undergo the remediation they need; and, ultimately, the public is protected.

Anyone may file a complaint against the license of a Registered Professional Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse. Please refer to the Public Complaint Handling and Disposition Procedure, 20 CSR 2200-4.030.

To determine if the incident in question should be reported to the Board office, please refer to the attached document based on Section 335.066, RSMo, Grounds for Denial or Discipline. The members of the Missouri State Board of Nursing review all complaints, WHICH MUST BE IN WRITING.

According to the State of Missouri Nursing Practice Act (335.066, RSMo), anyone who makes a complaint and does so in good faith SHALL NOT be subject to civil damages because of the allegation made.
