Mutual Recognition
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
In August 1997, the Missouri State Board of Nursing made a motion to endorse the pursuit of multi state licensure as designed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. Today the terminology that you will hear used by Board members and staff is Mutual Recognition. Mutual Recognition is a method of nurse licensure that would allow a nurse (RN or LPN) to have one license and practice across state lines. In order for the MSBN to participate in Mutual Recognition, the state of Missouri would have to enter into an interstate compact that would allow the Board of Nursing to enter into an agreement with the other Boards of Nursing throughout the United States.
